Measure Skeleton Length

Measure the length of a skeleton using the algorithm from

Niemisto, A., Dunmire, V., Yli-Harja, O., Wei Zhang, and Shmulevich, I. (2005). Robust quantification of in vitro angiogenesis through image analysis. IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging 24, 549–553.

The aspect ratio of a pixel is considered to be one. Lengths are calculated from the middle of one pixel to the middle of another pixel.

Getting started

To install the tool, drag the link Measure_Skeleton_Length to the ImageJ launcher window. Save it under /plugins/tools in the ImageJ installation and restart ImageJ.

Using the tool

Create a skeleton from your image. You can do this by first creating a mask for example with the "threshold adjuster" and then running Process>Binary>Skeletonize. Press the "measure skeleton tool-button". The length of the skeleton will be written to the results table.
