Description of the Project¶

An easy and intuitive way for users to import images into the image database OMERO without the need to keep an operation system session open on the client machine

Offline import requirements¶

• No need to wait for image uploads to finish
• No need to pay for the usage of the machine during the upload
• No blocking of the machine for other users
• Off-line import should not interfere with the function of the microscope
• There should be a success and failure notification: positive and negative feedback
• Sufficient throughput for large data: Define how much.
• System to block users from removing files locally before being imported
• Network traffic should be minimised: transfer takes place once and only once
• Data should be on the server within a reasonable time frame

Secondary requirements¶

• Create a support email address
• Place support material on the website, as well as the client download link to the client matching the current server version
• Organise regular trainings
• Establish an image repository with our own updated files for testing each new version
• Manage a consistent client installation through all MRI workstations
• Define a quality assurance scheme for the OMERO setup
• Migrate the server to a more powerful installation
